Mountain Bike Super Cup in Edessa
On the two days of June 15 & 16, Edessa had the opportunity to host the last race of the Mountain Bike Super Cup. A race that was originally planned to take place in Elati Trikala, but eventually ended up on the beautiful urban (Waterfall Park) and peri-urban (F.O.E.) routes of the “water city”!
On April 24th, the hosting – for the first time – of the Panhellenic MTB High School Championship was held in the area of F.O.E. A test match for our city, the success of which contributed decisively to the successful claim of the Super Cup!
What was the impression of the two days?
Edessa “put itself on the map” for hosting sports events of pan-Hellenic scope. The perfect organization of the Panhellenic High School MTB School Championship “brought” the Mountain Bike Super Cup and finally the Panhellenic Mountain Bike Championship for Men Elite / Young Men, Women, Teenagers, Juniors & E-bike (July 19-20-21).
Hosting 200+ guests. Athletes – training teams – chaperones / guardians from various regions visited our city and moved within its urban and peri-urban fabric, while many stayed overnight. Specifically, we were visited by teams from: Komotini, Xanthi, Kavala, Thessaloniki, Ptolemaida, Florina and Giannitsa.
Recognizability (city branding) & Presentation of natural beauty. A pan-Hellenic sporting event always contributes to improving the recognition of a place. Through the advertisement of the race and the photographic lens of the visitors – where the efforts of the athletes were captured – the images of the green and water beauties of our country “traveled”! Both the venue and the choice of location for the awards contributed to this: The “balcony” of the Waterfalls and the F.O.E.
Extroversion & Social Interaction. Edessa is turning into an “open” city. Claims, “hears”, interacts. It passes from the era of the “guest” to the era of the “host”, strengthening the sense of pride of its inhabitants and especially its young people.
